Paris-Saclay Takes the Spotlight on the International AI Stage

With France set to host an international AI summit in February (AI Action Summit), Paris-Saclay is eager to show that France deserves a top spot in the international stage for AI .

This is a major objective for the research cluster, as it endeavors to maintain its attractiveness and growth in AI faced with immense competition from the American giants in the sector.

As the No. 1 academic and industrial innovation region in France and No. 2 worldwide, Paris-Saclay is a colossal powerhouse when it comes to all the digital technologies that are driving the greatest innovations in AI, whether in terms of the digital transformation of businesses and administrations, or the industrial revolution towards the factory of the future.

Already home to 42 specialized AI research laboratories and 110 AI startups, Paris-Saclay is set to become an even bigger global AI cluster thanks to dedicated funding from the French government of €70 million over five years. Among the AI centers at Paris-Saclay, the DATAIA Institute brings together all the AI expertise present on the Plateau, with nearly 800 researchers from 47 laboratories working with over 50 companies. In addition, research labs from Servier, EDF and Thalès have also moved to Paris-Saclay, with a focus on three main topics: AI mathematics, AI in healthcare and AI in physics and the environment.

This year, Business France and Choose Paris Region also showcased Paris-Saclay at Davos, drawing the attention of key decision-makers to its ground-breaking innovations in artificial intelligence and quantum technologies. As a center of excellence in research and development, Paris-Saclay highlighted some of its emerging talents from the prestigious academic clusters of Université Paris-Saclay and Institut Polytechnique de Paris: Mistral AI, Quandela and Pasqal.

Finally, on February 6 and 7, 2025, the École Polytechnique hosted an international scientific conference dedicated to the impact of artificial intelligence on science and society. Entitled “AI Science and Society”, the conference brought together researchers, business leaders, political decision-makers and experts to discuss the changes brought about by AI, just days before the AI Action Summit at the Grand Palais.
