Université de Versailles-Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines launches a third nanosatellite

Together with Space X, Université de Versailles-Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (UVSQ) Latmos (Atmospheres and Space Observations Laboratory) launched its third nanosatellite, known as UVSQ-SAT NG, into space, joining the lab’s first two nanosatellites, UVSQ-Sat and Inspire-Sat 7. The 10-kg craft was launched on March 15 from the Vandenberg military base in California (USA) aboard a Space X Falcon 9 rocket. Dedicated to observing the Earth and Sun, the scientific nanosatellite is designed to observe essential climatic variables, measure the Earth’s radiation balance, and map variations in the concentrations of the main greenhouse gases, in particular carbon dioxide and methane. In addition, the mission will enable the in-orbit validation of new technologies developed by Latmos and its partners, while also helping to train students in space engineering.
